Professional Bio
Jessica, a proud Yuwaalaraay woman of the grass country of the Yuwaalaraay Euahlayi people began her career in aged care. After completing her diploma of nursing, she worked as an enrolled nurse in palliative care whilst completing her Bachelor of Nursing. During this time, she undertook remote placements in Aboriginal communities of the Barkly Region, Northern Territory. Knowing that working within community to pursue equitable health and social outcomes was her goal she set out to gain the qualifications and experience required. Jessica completed a graduate year in renal nursing before completing a transition to speciality program in the Gold Coast University Hospital ED. During her time there, she led quality initiatives aimed at transforming emergency towards cultural safety and completed post graduate qualifications in emergency and maternal critical care before returning to the Barkley as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Tennant Creek emergency department. Seeking a way in which she can become more impactful in improving health outcomes for her community with a focus on First Nations led policy, governance and research she relocated to Victoria in 2023 to pursue a career in public health. Currently Jessica is the First Nations Health Advisor and Registered Nurse at Grampians Health and the Principle Investigator for the research project Creating culturally safe care pathways in a regional emergency department.
